Timothy W. Lasker was born in New York City and grew up in Chappaqua, New York. He has lived year-round on Martha’s Vineyard for thirty years, with one five year hiatus.

Mr. Lasker studied Architecture at the University of Utah and began his career with Flashmaps Publications in 1975. He worked as Director of Production and Chief Cartographer until 1984. In 1984 he moved to Scitex America Corp., a vendor of high-end computer systems catering to large newspapers, magazines and printers, where he managed the training department for all of North America. He then went to Newsday on Long Island, N.Y. as Editorial Systems Manager.

In 1990 he became Assistant Publisher and Director of Operations for the sports paper The National, where in nine months he implemented the first fully electronically produced daily newspaper in the world, printed at seven different plants around the country.

For the next five years Mr. Lasker ran News Inc. Consulting. Traveling extensively, he was the world leader in the conversion of newspapers from black and white to color printing. His client list included: Sun Microsystems, Information International, Cybergraphic, The Army Times, The Hartford Courant, News Limited, Hong Kong Standard, and CVS/Peoples Pharmacies.

In 1995 Mr. Lasker founded and served as CEO of dibs, Digital Image Bank Service. Along with his partner, Philips Electronics NV, he created the first on-line service where Fortune 500 advertisers could access digital color product images over the Internet. dibs was sold in 1999 and Mr. Lasker then started T.W. Lasker and Associates, a consulting company specializing in business development, marketing and management. During this time he also served as Director of Development for the Polly Hill Arboretum, a not-for-profit Arboretum.

In 2006, Lasker co-chaired the Martha’s Vineyard committee to elect Deval Patrick. He organized an extremely successful town meeting for future governor Patrick in August, and introduced Patrick to the stage. The governor elect garnered 68 % of the vote on Martha’s Vineyard during the democratic primary.
Currently, Mr. Lasker runs Swift Wind Energy LLC, a company focused on new wind technology for commercial and home use. He sits on the Chilmark Planning Board and the Affordable Housing Committee. He is instrumental in updating and revising the latest version of the Chilmark Master Plan.
